Custom Fields
Custom fields let you capture data that is unique to your organization beyond the 30+ built-in profile fields.
Field Types
FaithAdmin supports seven custom field types:
| Type | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Text | Single-line text input | Spiritual gift, T-shirt size |
| Textarea | Multi-line text input | Testimony, special notes |
| Number | Numeric input | Years of membership |
| Date | Date picker | Baptism date, confirmation date |
| Dropdown | Single selection from a list | Campus location, ministry area |
| Checkbox | Yes/no toggle | Background check completed, photo consent |
| Multi-select | Multiple selections from a list | Skills, interests, languages spoken |
Creating a Custom Field
- Navigate to Settings > Custom Fields (or see Custom Fields Admin).
- Click Add Field.
- Enter a name for the field.
- Select the field type.
- For dropdown and multi-select types, enter the list of options.
- Optionally mark the field as required.
- Add a description to help staff understand what to enter.
- Click Save.
Managing Values on Profiles
Once a custom field is defined, it appears on every member profile:
- Open a member's profile in People.
- Scroll to the Custom Fields section.
- Enter or update values for each field.
- Click Save.
Reordering Fields
Custom fields can be reordered by drag-and-drop in the admin settings. The sort order determines how fields appear on member profiles.
Deleting Fields
Deactivating a custom field hides it from profiles but preserves existing data. This allows you to restore fields later without data loss.
dica
Use dropdown and multi-select fields instead of free text when possible -- they make filtering and reporting much easier.
