Hebrew Calendar

The Hebrew Calendar feature provides Gregorian-to-Hebrew date conversion, Shabbat times, and Jewish holiday information. This feature is automatically enabled with the Jewish terminology pack.

Gregorian-Hebrew Conversion

FaithAdmin displays both Gregorian and Hebrew dates where relevant:

  • Member profiles can store dates in both calendar systems
  • Event dates show their Hebrew equivalents
  • Memorial dates (yahrzeit) are tracked in the Hebrew calendar
  • The dashboard shows today's Hebrew date

Shabbat Times

FaithAdmin calculates weekly Shabbat times based on your location:

  • Candle lighting -- Typically 18 minutes before sunset on Friday
  • Havdalah -- End of Shabbat on Saturday evening
  • Times adjust automatically based on your geographic coordinates and the time of year

Jewish Holidays

FaithAdmin integrates with the HebCal API to display Jewish holidays on your Calendar:

  • Major holidays -- Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Pesach, Shavuot
  • Minor holidays -- Chanukah, Purim, Tu BiShvat, Lag BaOmer
  • Fast days -- Yom Kippur, Tisha B'Av, Fast of Gedaliah, etc.
  • Rosh Chodesh -- New month observances

Holidays appear alongside your regular events on the calendar so you can plan services and programs accordingly.

Configuration

  1. Ensure the Hebrew Calendar feature is enabled under Settings > Features.
  2. Set your organization's location for accurate Shabbat time calculations.
  3. Holidays are loaded automatically from the HebCal API.

Using Hebrew Dates

Hebrew dates are particularly important for:

  • Memorials and Yahrzeit -- Death anniversaries are traditionally observed on the Hebrew date
  • Lifecycle Events -- Bar/Bat Mitzvah dates, conversion dates
  • Holiday planning -- Knowing exact start times for holidays
astuce

Verify your organization's geographic location is set correctly -- Shabbat candle lighting and havdalah times depend on precise coordinates.
